The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Sunday declared Senator Ademola Adeleke the winner of the governorship election held in Osun State, Nigeria, on Saturday.
Senator Ademola Adeleke who contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated his closest rival and incumbent governor of the State, Adegboyega Oyetola who vied for the position under the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC.
In declaring the result of the election at the INEC office in Osogbo, the Returning Officer, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe stated that Adeleke polled 401,793 votes to defeat Oyetola who polled 350,283 votes to come second.
Specifically, Adeleke won in 17 Local Governments, many of them with a large majority, while Oyetola won in 13 Local Governments.
