My Journey (6)

By Paul Dada

TITLE: The rise and rise of Daddy Paul

Daddy Paul! That was what many youths of Deeper Life fondly called me. I don’t know who started it. But the appellation just stayed.

Truly, I was a favourite of many of the younger people. I served as a Rep of youths, an equivalent of what some denominations would call “youths pastor”.

I also taught the Youth Choir. I was one of the most prominent and long-serving Group of Districts Youth Choirmasters in Lagos. I led the Adult Choir in my area as well.

The youths especially loved me because I preached and taught with charisma and humour.

Besides, many of them were able to tell me deep secrets about their lives and families in confidence. I found myself counselling them on critical issues of life.

They came to my house freely. Some lived temporarily with me. Others had times they slept over in my house.

I continued to rise In the church. I had the privilege to preach to the general congregation in District Church several times. I stood in for one of our District Pastors when he was sick for months.

I also used to go from one location church to another within our District to preach/teach at the Thursday Revival and Evangelism Training Service.

I organised countless programmes like choir retreats, concerts, street musical evangelism, programmes for undergraduates, prayer sessions and meetings. I attended high-powered meetings. I was well favoured and loved by senior pastors.

I was active, strong and indefatigable. And my wife coped well and supported me.

But I started to struggle, and the story changed.
