My journey (4)

TITLE: Genuine salvation at Deeper Life Bible Church

When Aunty Toun, my mother’s oldest surviving child spoke in tongues at home, our Catholic minds believed she had become a religious nutcase. But she had become born again as a French student on campus. And this was at the time I was still stuck with Catholicism.

I think she first attended the Christ Apostolic Church before she switched to the Deeper Life Bible Church, Nigeria’s foremost holiness-Pentecostal denomination.

Taking advantage of our later aversion to Catholicism, Aunty Toun took Bola (my immediate elder brother) Ayo (my elder half-sister) and I to a service at the DLBC headquarters at Gbagada, Lagos.

Located within a valley at 6, Ayodele Street, the DLBC headquarters Church was then a sprawling unpainted building of five large auditoria; each leading to the elevated altar region which had two pulpits.

Until that time, I had never seen a Church building as large as that and with thousands of people in attendance. I kept attending. Ayo said she was no longer interested in the church. Bola continued as a member but left some years later. But I stuck with Deeper Life from 1989 up till 31st December 2018.

I truly gave my life to Christ on 24th September 1989 after listening to a sermon by the Founder and General Superintendent of the denomination, Pastor William Folorunsho Kumuyi.

After my salvation, I was set on fire for Christ.
