Twitter access restored after FG's directive on the lifting of the ban

Consequent to the directive of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), that the ban on Twitter be accordingly lifted, Nigerians on Thursday woke up, being able to access their various Twitter accounts without using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

It would be recalled that the FGN had suspended Twitter in Nigeria last June after accusing the platform of enabling the spread of fake news and hate speech that undermined national security.

Specifically, the ban came days after the platform deleted a tweet from President Muhammadu Buhari referencing the Nigerian civil war.
