Apapa Local Government has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth leadership and international representation as four of its promising young leaders depart for the African Union Leadership Youth Summit in Ethiopia.
The summit, themed ‘Building a United Front to Advance the Cause of Justice for African Youth and People of African Descent Through Reparation,’ follows a rousing farewell ceremony held on Monday, November 10, 2025.
The Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo, charged the departing youths to uphold the highest standards of conduct and excellence as they represent Apapa, Lagos State, and Nigeria at the continental gathering.
In her address, Senbanjo encouraged the delegates to participate actively and aspire for leadership positions during the summit.
She reminded them that their presence should reflect not just attendance but a demonstration of Apapa’s commitment to nurturing capable, globally competitive leaders.
“You are ambassadors of Apapa, Lagos, and Nigeria. Strive for excellence and bring back the knowledge and experiences that will inspire our youth at home. What you learn in Ethiopia must translate into local growth and empowerment,” she said.
Her remarks underscored her administration’s longstanding vision of empowering young people through education, leadership development, and global exposure.
The APC Lagos State Youth Leader and member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Dr Seriki Murtala Ishola, also delivered a heartfelt message at the event, commending Senbanjo’s relentless commitment to youth advancement.
Describing her as a visionary leader, Dr Seriki said Senbanjo’s initiatives have positioned Apapa as a model for youth inclusion and leadership grooming in Lagos State.
He urged the delegates to see their participation not as a mere privilege but as a responsibility to represent their nation with dignity and discipline.
“This is a call to leadership, responsibility, and service. Be focused, network widely, and contribute meaningfully so that Apapa and Nigeria shine brightly on the African stage,” he stated.
Dr Seriki reaffirmed the APC’s ongoing commitment to supporting youth empowerment under Senbanjo’s leadership through mentorship, leadership training, and capacity-building opportunities.
The four Apapa delegates representing Nigeria at the summit include: Comrade Idoko Samuel, Coordinator, NYCN (Apapa Chapter) – Egypt delegation, Comrade Lukman Barakat, PRO, NYCN (Apapa Chapter) – Burundi delegation, Comrade Adedipe Taiye, President, United Apapa Youth Forum – Seychelles delegation, and Mr Oluwasanya Oluwatosin, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman – Ethiopia delegation.
