LINDA IKEJI |
The High Court of Delta State, presided over by Justice Roli Daibo-Harriman, has awarded damages in the sum of N30 million against popular Nigerian blogger, Linda Ikeji, over a libellous publication against the Neo-Black Movement of Africa.
The claimants in the suit are the Registered Trustees of NBM of Africa, Ese Kakor, Felix Kupa and Mayor Onyebueke.
In handing down his verdict on the suit marked EHC/210/2021, Justice Daibo-Harriman also ordered Ikeji to pay N300,000, being the cost of litigation.
The popular bigger was equally directed to place a publication on her blog and two national dailies retracting the libellous publication for which the NBM dragged her to the court.
The court also stopped Ikeji from further damaging publications against the claimants.
It would be recalled that the NBM of Africa had headed to the court after Ikeji failed to honour a letter by the claimants demanding a retraction and apology over the libellous article published on her blog on October 19, 2021.
Ikeji in the said publication had allegedly labelled the NBM of Africa as a dreaded cult group, black axe, and criminal organisation among other names.
This prompted the claimants to ask the court to award N1bn damages in their favour and that the popular blogger should tender an unreserved apology to be published on her blog and two national dailies among others.
The trial court described the tags, including dreaded cultist group, black axe and criminal organisation as used in the defendant’s publication as defamatory.
