The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, commenced the two days (Tuesday, 27 and Wednesday 28) nationwide protest to pressure the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to implement the agreement reached with labour on the palliative to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal.
The decision to embark on the protest came sequel to the alleged refusal of the FGN to implement an agreement to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians arising from the removal of subsidy.
It would be recalled that the FGN had promised wage increment but settled for wage award which it had reneged to pay and mobilization of CNG buses to ease the problem of transportation.
While the President Tinubu-led government had reneged with no hope of fulfilling the agreement, the cost of goods has skyrocketed, reducing the purchasing power of Nigerians, with many unable to feed without begging to survive.
